SATAKSHI NANDY

A Contemporary dancer with prior training in Kathak and Classical Jazz, she has also practiced theatre extensively within Kolkata.

Satakshi is a Contemporary dancer with prior training in Kathak and Classical Jazz, she has also practiced theatre extensively within Kolkata.

 

Satakshi completed her diploma in Movement Arts from Attakkalari Center for Movement Arts, Bangalore in 2015 and since then has been collaborating with dancers, film makers and theatre artistes/directors in the role of a dancer, movement artiste and actor. Her main interest lies in inter-disciplinary training by drawing principles from different forms of movement arts. She also conducts classes and workshops in Contemporary Dance and Movement. Her range of movement experience includes, an understanding of the principles of the martial art Kalaripayattu which she derived from her diploma training and at a month long intensive at CVN Kalari Trivandrum, Contemporary dance technique and Indian folk styles from her diploma training, in depth Improvisation practice from being a resident dancer at play Practice Residency(2015) Bangalore, extensive theatre practice through performing with collectives in Kolkata and whilst working in different collaborative projects as a choreographer and performer.
Her recent works include, as dancer and co- choreographer in a collaborative Dance Theatre ‘Sister Outsider’ with Ludivine Metarie(supported by University Paris 8) that travelled to Bangalore, Chennai and Kolkata, as a dancer for the Dance Theatre, ‘Praatohkrityo’ for the collective ‘Theatre Formation Paribartak’ which travelled to Delhi and Kolkata, as a movement artist and actor in National Award winning film, ‘Amar Katha’(2014), as a dancer in a video installation project ‘Across the Burning Track’ which premiered at the Shanghai Biennial 2016, and a solo dance work in progress, ‘Strange Fruit’ which was presented at PECDA 2016, Chennai. Satakshi is presently completing an internship with the collective of Parkour artistes,’ Parkour Circle’ in Chennai, whilst understanding principles of Parkour that can be applied to Dance, and vice versa.
